A Word From
Neal Suess, President/CEO

Neal SuessThis summer, the District will be conducting a Recreation Survey to learn more about recreation use at our facilities so we can develop a plan for future improvements. Community input is an important part of this plan and will help the District continue to be a part of recreation in the four county area.

Welcome

Welcome to Loup Power District's Loup River Hydroelectric Project relicensing website. The existing license for Loup Power District's hydroelectric project will expire in April 2014. A new license application must be filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) by mid-April of 2012 (two years before the existing license expires). The process for relicensing began in 2008 as mandated by FERC.

In this website, you will find information about the relicensing process, overall schedule, materials distributed to the public, and documents that are available for review. The site is intended to help inform and engage stakeholders throughout the multi-year relicensing process.

What's New

Loup Power District Announces Recreation Survey beginning in May

The District is currently conducting studies to collect the necessary information for evaluation of a new project license in accordance with the Study Plan Determination. As part of the relicensing effort, this summer, the District will be conducting Recreational Use Surveys to evaluate the public awareness, usage, and demand of the District’s existing recreation facilities. It is estimated that 150,000 visitors use the District’s recreation facilities each year and the information from the surveys will be used to develop a recreation management plan to better serve the four-county area. The survey will begin in May 2010 and will be conducted at Headworks Park, Lake North Park, Loup Park/Lake Babcock, Powerhouse Park, Tailrace Park, Loup Lands Wildlife Management Area, and along the Loup River from the District’s headworks near Genoa to Columbus.

This summer look for signs that will be placed at entrances to the District’s recreation areas promoting the survey and for surveyors in the recreation areas wearing bright yellow summer survey apparel. In addition, information will be collected through telephone surveys of residents in Platte and Nance counties.

If approached or called, please take a few minutes to answer questions about your experience at Loup Power District recreation facilities. We appreciate your participation.

The District’s Notice of Intent and Pre-Application Document for the Project, FERC’s Scoping Documents, the Proposed and Revised Study Plan, and FERC’s Study Plan Determination can also be found on this website. Copies of all documents are also available for review at the District’s General Office at 2404 15th Street in Columbus.
